The Flight: Trusting What’s Already in Motion

There is a stretch of the journey where nothing feels like it’s happening, even though everything already is. It feels like a lot is going on, yet nothing is happening at once—such an oxymoron.

In archery, once the arrow leaves the bow and the archer completes the follow-through, there is nothing left to adjust. The arrow is in flight. The work that mattered most has already been done, and now the archer can only watch, wait, and trust what was set in motion.

Life has seasons like that too.

Seasons where you’ve done what you were asked to do. You said yes and followed through. You stayed steady and now… you’re waiting. With no control over timing. No way to speed things up. No ability to intervene.

That space can feel unbearable. At least for me, it does.

It's because waiting without control often feels like uncertainty without purpose.

🌿 When Waiting Isn’t Passive, Just Powerless

Some of the hardest seasons of my life were legal waiting seasons.

Court dates set months apart. Decisions delayed. Custody schedules dictated by systems I had no influence over. Every step required paperwork, patience, and restraint. I couldn’t rush the process, fix it myself, or force clarity. I could only respond when my name was called and wait again.

That kind of waiting exposes something deep inside you. It reveals how much you want control; How badly you want closure. It demonstrates how uncomfortable it is to trust when outcomes are completely out of your hands.

There were moments I wanted to push, interfere, or demand resolution. At times, I questioned whether staying still meant I was being passive or strong. Then there were times I wondered if anything was actually happening at all.

Those were moments when I learned something important.

Just because I couldn’t see movement didn’t mean nothing was moving.

The arrow was already in flight.

🎯 The Flight Is Where Trust Is Tested

In archery, interfering with the arrow mid-flight would ruin everything. The archer’s job is done before the arrow ever leaves the bow. Once it’s in motion, accuracy depends on restraint, not control.

The same is true in life.

The flight is the season when you are tempted to:

• rush what requires time

• question what was already confirmed

• interfere with what God is still carrying

• measure progress by visibility instead of faithfulness

The flight isn’t wasted space. It’s the stretch where trust is strengthened.
Where patience is formed, and your heart learns to rest instead of react.

Waiting doesn’t mean you missed the mark. It often means you’re aligned enough to let the process finish its work.

🌿 When You Can’t Control the Outcome, You Can Still Stay Aligned

The waiting seasons in my life taught me this:

You don’t need control to stay aligned. You need trust.

Alignment in flight means continuing to live faithfully even when nothing is decided yet. It looks like staying grounded when anxiety wants to take over. It looks like choosing peace over panic, surrender over striving.

Slowly, something shifts. Not necessarily on the outside, but internally. You become steadier, more confident, less reactive, and more anchored. I'd sum it up in one word: trust. You trust God.

By the time the outcome arrives, you’re no longer the same person who released the arrow. You’re stronger, calmer, and better prepared to receive what lands.

🌿 Reflection for the Week

Take a moment to reflect:

Where am I waiting without control right now?
What am I tempted to interfere with instead of trusting?
What would change if I believed the arrow is already in flight?

Waiting doesn’t mean nothing is happening. It means the outcome is still traveling.

“God, help me trust You in the waiting.
When I want to rush the outcome or take control again,
remind me that You are still working beyond what I can see.
Teach me to rest while the arrow is in flight.
Strengthen my heart to trust what You’ve already set in motion.
And give me peace while I wait for what is still on its way.”
