Today, as I sit with my thoughts on this week’s Destiny Awaits episode, I feel the weight and beauty of the Beatitudes pressing into my heart in a new way. I don’t think I’ve ever understood “blessed” like this before, or how deeply it’s tied to purpose and identity. It’s strange and beautiful how Jesus’ words can sound so simple yet transform us so profoundly.
When we usually think of “blessing,” don’t we often picture the good things that come to us—financial security, good health, relationships that bring joy? But in our episode today, Mike and I explored the concept of “ashrei,” this ancient understanding of blessedness as an internal state—a contentment and peace that aren’t defined by circumstances. It’s the kind of blessing that doesn’t depend on what we have but on who we are in God.
For anyone reading this, maybe you’re like me, finding that life’s blessings sometimes look different than you expected. Jesus’ words about the Kingdom invite us to view blessing as an invitation to experience peace, joy, and purpose here and now, no matter what’s happening around us. When Jesus says we are blessed, He’s not saying, “Life will be easy,” but rather, “My presence will be with you through it all.” It’s about God being our reward, our portion, our place of rest.
Living the Beatitudes Day by Day
I’ve always seen the Beatitudes as nice teachings, almost like a poetic introduction to the Sermon on the Mount. But they’re so much more. Jesus is inviting us into a life where God’s Kingdom transforms everything we think about success, purpose, and happiness.
Today, I’m drawn to what it means to be “poor in spirit.” It’s a strange phrase, isn’t it? But what if being “poor in spirit” means knowing that, in all my strengths and weaknesses, I need God deeply? There’s a freedom in that—letting go of the need to be everything and do everything. I find a peace in realizing that real purpose starts with humility, with recognizing my need for God’s grace in every part of my life.
And for anyone walking through a hard season, wondering where God’s blessing is, I hope this reminder brings comfort: Jesus says that we’re blessed when we mourn, not because loss is good, but because God Himself will comfort us. It’s a reminder that the deep places of our lives—those times of struggle, pain, and even doubt—are not empty places. They’re places where God meets us, filling us with something far deeper than the temporary solutions of this world.
Recognizing God’s Kingdom Here and Now
One of the questions that lingered with me after this episode was, “Would I recognize Jesus if He walked the earth today?” That question speaks to something deep within me—this desire to know God, to recognize His heart. Living out the Beatitudes, I realize, isn’t just about how we act; it’s about how we see. Can we see God’s Kingdom in the moments that don’t seem grand or miraculous? Can we recognize Him in the small, often hidden blessings that invite us to trust, to love, to let go of control?
For any of you reading, I wonder if you’ve felt that pull—to see God’s Kingdom here and now. Jesus’ teachings remind us that the Kingdom isn’t just an afterlife destination but a present reality, one we step into by embodying humility, compassion, mercy, and peace.
As we begin to live out these qualities, we start to see the world differently. We see that the person who hungers for justice, the peacemaker, the one who shows mercy, all reflect something of God’s own heart. And that’s what I’m learning: to live blessed is to live as a reflection of God’s love, to be so aligned with His purpose that our lives become a glimpse of His Kingdom.
Finding Strength in the Unseen
There’s something else that struck me. Sometimes, I think we look for blessings that others can see—achievements, status, things that feel secure. But Jesus’ words here go deeper. The Beatitudes call us to a strength that’s hidden, a purpose that isn’t always praised by others but is cherished by God. It’s in the moments when we choose love over hate, forgiveness over bitterness, mercy over judgment. These are the moments that might go unnoticed, yet they’re where we find true purpose and peace.
For anyone walking a difficult path, take heart. There is purpose in your journey, even if it doesn’t look like the world’s definition of success. God’s blessing is with you in ways that are beyond what the eye can see, working through the trials, the moments of surrender, the acts of kindness that come at a cost.
Today, I’m grateful for these lessons, for the Beatitudes that keep drawing me closer to a life that’s more than surface blessings. They remind me that the truest blessings are not always the loudest or most visible, but they’re real. They’re the blessings of living in sync with God’s heart, of seeing His hand in every part of life, and knowing that, in Him, we are always blessed.
So, if you’re reading this, may these words bring you hope. May they remind you that, wherever you are, you are blessed, seen, and deeply loved. Let’s walk this journey together, stepping deeper into the Kingdom each day.
